Residents enjoyed the first beach picnic of Spring so much that we decided to do it all again! What's not to enjoy? Maxine Barritt Park boasts glorious views of the Gulf, powdery sand on the shoreline, and tropical breezes. Dining Services provided a picnic-inspired menu, and Kenny Moolinar played the steel drum! Do you think that you know your neighbor? Here's a chance for you to test your neighborly knowledge!
Neighbor #1:

One of my favorite childhood memories is of a weekend vacation at the lake in Canada. I attended Vogue Art School, Columbia University and University of Wisconsin (where I majored in Journalism). I was a puppeteer during college, as well. I was also the secretary and treasurer for a radio station. My husband and I have three boys and one girl, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I grew up as one of four girls. I loved traveling in the Cairibbean, Isreal, Turkey, Greece, Japan and Thailand. I also enjoy gardening, reading, biking, swimming and playng Bridge. I love the warmth Florida offers after living many years in the cold. Who am I?
Neighbor #2:

I remember meeting a cousin who was the same age as I was, and we spent every summer together from them on. That is one of my fondest memories. I attended the University of Wisconsin, where I was a member of an acting group and I majored in Journalism. I have three brothers and one sister, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. My wife and I have been married for 65 years, and together we have three boys and one girl. I enjoy fishing and reading. I saw most of Europe during WWII. I spent many years as a radio/TV director and was also in the Army. Who am I?

Many events in life may cause us to need support, someone to talk to and counsel with. The death of a loved one, receiving bad news about our health, etc., all merit the need of comfort. Adapting to Life's Changes  is offered on a monthly basis at Jacaranda Trace to help our residents cope and move forward. Tidewell is here to offer a helping hand.

Asolo Theatre - Hamlet, Prince of Cuba

Posted by Arts & Leisure in Theatrical Events Southwest Florida , prince of Cuba , Cultural Events Jacaranda Trace , Cultural Events , Asolo Theatre - Hamlet

Hamlet’s intense struggle to understand the meaning of life has captivated audiences for more than 400 years. Now, Sarasota audiences will be the first to see a distinctively Cuban Hamlet, which reveals new perspectives on the classic work while staying true to Shakespeare’s original story. With performances both Spanish and English, this new adaptation offers us a fresh and stunning portrayal of a son’s struggle to pursue justice, and the consequences that threaten to destroy the lives of those he loves.

Swimming with the Whales Documentary

Posted by Arts & Leisure in Swimming with Whales Documentary , Senior Activities , Jacaranda Trace Clubhouse , Educational Event at Jacaranda Trace

Ever wonder what it would be like to swim with the largest mammals on Earth? What a humbling experience it would be to be near the majestic creatures as they emerged out of the sea, and crash back down into the ocean depths. Our residents had the opportunity to meet someone who did just that, and view a documentary about her experience. They learned so much and felt like they were very close to the experience - all without getting their feet wet!
