Baila Miller concludes her series on Gertrude Stein, the American writer and art collector who lived most of her life in Paris. Baila is an expert in art history and appreciation. This series has been exceptional, and many have become more cultured and knowledgeable concerning Gertrude Stein and her tremendous influence.

Much has been written about our Founding Fathers--the courageous steps taken in the Revolutionary War to fight for the Independence from their motherland--the establishment of a new constitution for the 13 new states--and the bravery to do this amid staunch opposition from other factions. 
 
However, could these great men have accomplished much of this without the women in their lives?  Learn about the colonial women, the wars in which they were involved, and how they contributed to the success of the men who shaped the greatest country ever in the history of humankind.

Our residents always enjoy staying plugged in to current affairs and learning more about events around the world. Foreign Affairs with Bob Clementis gives them the opportunity to ask questions, and learn more about these events. Keeping them stimulated mentally is healthy for the brain, and helps them feel up-to-date and well-informed.

Technology is constantly changing and evolving, which is why it is so vital that our residents stay plugged in to continually tuning their computer skills. Computer Classes are being offered on two levels, one for beginners-intermediate, the other for intermediate-experts. The instructor takes his time with students, teaching them how to navigate the internet, check emails, and complete other basic computer tasks. Students always become more confident in their computer abilities after this course.

Jacaranda Trace offers mentally stimulating programming for all of our Club Members. In November, the US Constitution Federalist Papers class began. Residents enjoyed intriguing conversation and learning more about the history of our country and its founding documents. Providing a learning environment for our seniors maintains an active mind and positive outlook for many of our participants.

We live in technology-driven world, which is why Arts & Leisure partners with the Adult & Community Education Center to bring our residents classes that will help them master the latest computer advances. In October, classes were offered which taught on subjects such as "Understanding Facebook," and "Email and Internet Basics." Thanks to these courses, many of our residents now feel more comfortable surfing the web, connecting with old friends and communicating via email with children and grandchildren.
