Hurricane Protection at Jacaranda Trace

When Jacaranda Trace was constructed Roskamp & Patterson Management realized residents should not have a concern for safety. Violent winds alone are not the major cause of window failure during a hurricane, the real cause is flying objects. A code for hurricane protection now focuses on impact protection for windows and doors, not just wind velocity. To protect our community PGT WinGuard Impact Resistant Windows and Doors combined with heavy duty aluminum frames with impact resistant glass were installed. A special silicone glazing process keeps the glass from breaking away from the frame, preventing destructive wind from entering your condominium.

Impact resistant glass is comprised of two glass panes bonded with special interlayer of clear polyvinylbutral, similar to auto windshields, but is three times stronger. It provides amazing protection against flying debris.

Continuous power
Two generators powered by natural gas allow residents to weather a storm or at least its aftermath in unprecedented comfort. These generators will supply a constant fly of electricity when grid power may be interrupted. This will supply power not only to your individual condominium, but to the dining area, (kitchen) and elevators. We have full backup and you won't be kept in the dark or without air conditioning during storms or adverse weather.

Our building offers reinforced exterior and interior concrete walls. Buildings made of concrete are much more storm-resistant than any other material. Jacaranda Trace is constructed with the latest materials to withstand intense wind velocity.

The Bistro offers a casual, yet superb dining experience to our residents and their guests. You may choose to sit near a window, overlooking our glistening pool. The open grill, tasty menu and friendly service creates a wonderful lunchtime atmosphere. Also, decadent desserts are always offered to finish your meal on a sweet note!

Helpful Hints:
     Always use a sharp knife to cut and dice all food items. A dull knife creates more resistance to the food and is more likely to dart off and possibly cut your fingers or hand. A sharp knife, if you happen to cut yourself, and it happens to the best of us, will create a cleaner, less jagged cut which will heal faster and be less likely to leave a scar.
    Everyone always complains how difficult it is to peel a hard boiled egg. If you are letting the egg cool or get cold before you attempt to peel it, it is virtually impossible to take the shell off without peeling off large chunks of the outer egg white. Try this. After boiling the eggs remove the pot from the stove, place it in the sink and run cold water into the pot. At the same time begin peeling the eggs under the cold water from the faucet. As long as the egg stays reasonably warm during the time you are peeling it, the cold water will help separate the shell from the egg.
   Most people when they are attempting to sauté food in a pan make the same mistake. They do not let the pan get hot enough before placing the food into the pan. When the oil (or butter) in the pan is hot the food will not stick right away, it will absorb much less of the oil, and it will brown quicker and more evenly. Just remember to stay with the food and turn it over before it burns. You can always adjust the heat after that to allow it to cook longer in the pan if you don’t want to finish cooking the item in the oven. This also goes for when you cooking eggs. A cold pan or a pan too hot will always cause the eggs to stick to the pan. Start with a hot pan and adjust the heat after you have added your eggs.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays a teller from the Venice branch is available to cash checks, takes deposits and open accounts. Yoga combines the balance of mind, body and spirit. Our certified Yoga instructor helps those involved to feel at ease both inside and out. This calming, yet challenging exercise aids in stretching techniques and meditation. Yoga poses focus on all muscle groups and allow for great spiritual insight and tranquility.

Bridge comes in all shapes and sizes in the Cadbury Commons Clubhouse. There are groups that are comprised of women or men only, as well as combined groups. Jumbo Bridge, for our low-vision residents, is also in the making. This game is dear to the hearts of our residents, and the joy it brings them each week is priceless. Many participants have been faithful to their particular Bridge group for years, and wouldn't think of missing out on the fellowship and fun each week!

Jacaranda Trace stands apart from other local retirement communities in that it encompasses well-balanced programming which stimulates individuals socially, physically, spiritually and intellectually. Dakim Brain Fitness is one of many mind-rousing activities offered onsite. This system presents a wide array of questions, which differ at each session, that are cognitively challenging to the user. This mind-strengthening activity has been proven to be beneficial when used by Seniors and preventative of brain threatening illnesses.
