Every year, Ringling College of Art and Design's Selby Gallery creates a rich and diverse series of exhibitions for its student body and the community at large. The exhibits include juried student work. They also feature artist proofs, published prints, and books from the collection of Douglass Graem, founder of the Turner Museum in Denver, CO., and now a resident of Sarasota, FL.

Much has been written about our Founding Fathers--the courageous steps taken in the Revolutionary War to fight for the Independence from their motherland--the establishment of a new constitution for the 13 new states--and the bravery to do this amid staunch opposition from other factions. 
 
However, could these great men have accomplished much of this without the women in their lives?  Learn about the colonial women, the wars in which they were involved, and how they contributed to the success of the men who shaped the greatest country ever in the history of humankind.

Rosalie Gould, resident of Jacaranda Trace, has not only had a interesting life, but an influential one, as well. She was mayor of a town in Arkansas, when she came to learn about the Japanese Interment camps that had once been there soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She has had a strong hand in preserving those campsites and historical landmarks. Her presentation was captivating and informative. This landmark exhibition brings to life one of the greatest civilizations in the history of the world, spotlighting astonishing objects of every kind.Mummy cases and sacred works in diverse media, tomb and temple reliefs, papyrus fragments, alabaster vessels, and rare objects comprised of precious stones make this one of the most dramatic shows ever presented at the MFA. The 100 works demonstrate the genius of ancient craftsmen, and the magical or spiritual qualities of the objects are revealed at every turn. The internationally respected Egyptologist Dr. Robert Steven Bianchi is the guest curator.

Much of Gertrude Stein's fame stems from the art gallery she assembled during her lifetime. Join Baila Miller as she shares her extensive knowledge on this historical figure. You are sure to enjoy growing your mind and conversing with other art-lovers!

Scandalous Phillip Roth was a literature course designed for our residents who are familiar with, or interested in learning more about, this unique author. His work has inspired modern films and countless literary works by other authors. Keep your mind active, learn more about this author with us!

The ladies of Jacaranda Trace love to be pampered, and who doesn't? The Mary Kay Beauty Workshop provided free services to our residents, such as facials, and offered a table full of products available for purchase. Come see the pleasures of residence at JT, where workshops like the above are only the beginning of luxury.

Local author Ann Favreau presented her book Window Eyes to the residents of our community in September. The vivid depictions and stories of her travels worldwide were captivating and compelling. She described the experiences of her travels with enthusiasm and joy. Her book describes what makes the people of the world unique, and her presentation left the crowd wanting more.

We cater to a wide variety of interests in our community. Artistic interests, along with an intellectual atmosphere has proven to be quite popular among the residents of Jacaranda Trace. Baila Miller, a master of art history of all medium and genres, presents a different artists on a monthly basis. She educates the group on subjects from Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural influence to the popularity of Art Deco in its time. Her students always walk away with something new they've taken away from her lectures.

If you have an interest in writing, our Writers Club is just the right place for you. This resident-led group meets once per month to discuss past and future writing projects. The Writers Club has a place for those with interests in fictional, biographical, historical, non-fiction writing, as well as other genres. Join the club for some inspiration and get your pens moving!
